Motiva advances aromatics project with Honeywell UOP licence
Motiva Enterprises has taken a significant step forward in its aromatics project by securing a license for Honeywell UOP’s advanced aromatics technologies. The project, which is set to be constructed at Motiva’s Manufacturing Complex in Port Arthur, Texas, will feature a world-scale aromatics unit designed to produce essential petrochemical feedstocks like benzene and paraxylene.
These chemicals are critical components in the production of medical supplies, fabrics, and numerous other everyday products. As the demand for petrochemical feedstocks continues to outpace that of traditional fuels like gasoline and diesel, Motiva is positioning itself to play a key role in meeting future energy and petrochemical needs.
Jeff Rinker, president and CEO of Motiva, emphasised the importance of this project, stating, “Expanding our chemical footprint is essential for addressing the world’s future energy and petrochemical demands.” He also noted that the final investment decision will depend on the project’s economics and regulatory approvals.
Motiva’s Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex, the largest refinery in North America, will be the site of this new aromatics unit, further solidifying its role as a leader in the petrochemical industry.
